Subaru WRX STI
The Subaru WRX STI and a factory hot rod, appeals to a completely different audience than do the basic, fuel-efficient compact sedan and hatchback Impreza where they came from. They compete most directly with their archrival, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, which is also a compact sedan with four high performance turbo and all-wheel-drive.
They've taken, basically, for two last years model, with the launch of a new Subaru rear-drive BRZ sports car in last year's model.
The WRX (referring to the series where the Subaru World Rally made its reputation for tough all-wheel-drive performance car) is a "basic" version of the performance, and STI (Subaru Technica stood originally for International) is the hottest models.
The WRX STI and well-respected by the tuner, and the Evo-versus-IMS battle takes aspects of West Side Story Sharks and Jets. But they were never very cheap, especially considering the severe economic-car interior, an easy walk of more than $ 30,000 for the top-end models.
The first year of the new design, in 2008, it was not very well received by fans WRX: It is seen as underpowered and too softly sprung, and though the hatchback body shorter and more suitable for use in the performance of the Impreza four-door sedan, is due to nagging also. For 2009, the 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four engine gets a boost of 41 horsepower to 265 hp, with IMS now rated at 305 hp. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard, with an automatic (and somewhat outdated) also offered an optional four-speed. While the rest of the Impreza lineup is completely updated for 2012, the WRX STI and continues essentially unchanged for 2012 and 2013.
