The Dodge Avenger is a four-door, mid-size sedan with a companion Chrysler 200 (or Chrysler Sebring) at home companies. But that's not always the sedan, and after the 2013 model year is likely to remain a remnant of another era at Chrysler. The Dodge Avenger is actually the first two-door coupe, built by Dodge and Mitsubishi in the latter Illinois assembly plant. Based
on Mitsubishi running gear, which offers a choice of powerplants
Avenger four-cylinder or six-cylinder, manual and automatic
transmissions, and handsome styling hides the fact that the fundamentals
are shared with the Mitsubishi Galant concurrent (and, at that time,
the Dodge Stratus sedan). Avenger was sold from 1995-2000 model years. Dodge Avenger revive the nameplate in 2008, using it to completely replace the Stratus nameplate. New
front-drive sedan is also built on a platform derived from the
Mitsubishi product, though it's likely to be the last such vehicles,
such as Chrysler is now in a global alliance with Fiat Group of Italy. The
Avenger now debuting with three engine choices: the base 2.4-liter
four-cylinder comes with a basic car, while the higher priced versions
can be equipped with either 2.7-liter V-6 or 3.5-liter V-6. (In
other markets, Avenger also comes with the option of a smaller
four-cylinder turbodiesel or a.) All-wheel drive is offered for a short
time, but was removed as an Avenger sales have fallen. Avenger
is a spacious cabin, and chunky styling that has a certain appeal, but
it was a rental-car specifically because of its uncompetitive handling,
acceleration, and general repairs. For the 2010 model year, Avenger will return only with two powertrain options. 173-hp
four is one of the least pleasant four-cylinder engine in the Avenger
class, which includes the Ford Fusion and Hyundai Sonata and Volkswagen
Jetta. The V-6 engine has been dropped smaller, front-drive Avenger left with its top engine choice as the 235-hp V-6. With
this engine, sport-shift six-speed automatic is the only transmission
offered - and it had a problem, with hesitant downshifts. Fuel economy ranges from 21 mpg city, 30 highway mpg with the four-cylinder to 16/27 with the V-6. Handling
the R / T editions of strict compliance, but other features bouncy ride
and suffered a lot of road noise and powertrain. Materials and build quality is a big downer on the Avenger, and the security is a little behind the pack. In
the IIHS test of the insurance industry, score Avenger "good" ratings
for front and side protection, the latest model of the Dodge Avenger
have earned four-star ratings in the federal test. Otherwise, the 2011 and 2012 both brought good news. The
Avenger 2011 Chrysler gets a new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine, making
283 horsepower, and it's a major upgrade in refinement and
responsiveness. Similarly,
mid-range SXT four-cylinder models, for 2012, got a six-speed automatic
that help make the most of the four-cylinder engine. Avenger
is done for one more model year to 2013, with only a few minor changes
and a few new options, including the Rallye Appearance package is
enhanced with dark tinted headlamps and body-color grille. Avenger
is scheduled to be replaced with a model that is engineered and built
in the U.S., but comes from Fiat architecture, the models are expected
to model year 2014.
